Hi, I'm Bimala. I'm 28, and I've been working at Sicily for three weeks. Three weeks. That's it. But it already feels like I belong here.
I came to Kathmandu from Syangja because I wanted to learn something new. I'd gone abroad, come back, and decided — why not try the service industry? I had zero knowledge about how restaurants work. I didn't know the menu. I didn't know how to talk to customers. I didn't know anything.
But I came anyway.
The first few days were hard. Honestly, I was nervous. The menu seemed so big. The customers seemed so demanding. I didn't know where to start. But then Prakash — he's my work bestie — started teaching me. He showed me everything. The menu, the dishes, how to handle orders, how to talk to people. He's patient with me, even when I mess up.
And the owners? Sir and mam are so nice. They don't make me feel bad for being new. They encourage me. Everyone here is younger, and I'm learning from them. It's fun. It's really fun.
The truth is, I handle Nepali customers easily. I can talk to them, understand them. But international customers? They're difficult. I get nervous. My English isn't perfect, and I'm afraid of making mistakes. But every day, I'm getting better. Every day, I learn something new.
There's no special memory yet — everything is still too new. But every single day is a learning experience. I come at work and think, "What am I going to learn today?" That's the exciting part.
I used to just rest at home back in Syangja. Here, in Kathmandu, at T's, I'm doing something. I'm growing. I'm meeting new people. I'm learning a new skill.
My plan is to stay here for a long time. I'm actually interested in becoming a barista. I want to learn that too. One step at a time. First, I'll master being a good server. Then, I'll move toward barista work.
Working in a restaurant environment is fun and easy. It's busy, but it feels good to be busy. It feels like I'm doing something that matters.
I came here three weeks ago with nothing. Now I'm here, learning, growing, being part of a team that actually cares.
That's everything I needed.
